As a challenge to Mammootty, director cast Mohanlal as the hero and the rest is history!
Mohanlal, The Complete actor and Universal Star of Mollywood had become the Super Star of Malayalam cinema in 1986 through the movie named Rajavinte Makan directed by Thambi Kannanthanam. The film had shattered all box office records in Mollywood till then and the film still considered as one of the all-time commercial classics in Mollywood history. Mohanlal played an underworld don named Vincent Gomaz in that movie which was scripted by Dennis Joseph. But the movie was actually offered to Mammootty at first. But Mammootty rejected it saying that he has no belief in the director and he did not give his dates for the movie.
That had really hurt Thambi Kannanthanam and he told Mammootty that he will make this film with Mohanlal in the lead and it will make him the Numero Uno in Mollywood. Just like he said, Mohanlal made that role classic and that film made him the undisputed Super Star of Mollywood. From then, it is a well- known fact no one ever able to fly over Mohanlal in stardom here in Mollywood. He remains the box office emperor of Mollywood and it all started from that challenge between Mammootty and Thambi Kannanthanam. Mammootty and Thambi Kannanthanam never did a movie together later. Mohanlal and Thambi Knananthanam later did many movies and almost all of them become super successes in Mollywood.
