The character name was chosen for Mammootty, but given to Mohanlal later!
The character named Sethu Ramayyar from CBI is one of the most popular characters played by Mega Star Mammootty in his career till now. The film had 4 parts named Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, Jagratha, Sethu Ramayyar CBI and Nerariyan CBI. The first and third part of the movie were Super Hits and the other ones not made much impact here. The flick was written by popular writer SN Swamy and when he created the character for Mammootty, it was not like this. He created a Muslim character named Ali Imran for Mammootty. But Mammootty did not like this character and he said that he don’t want to play a police character at that time. Because he had just done a popular police character named Inspector Balram in IV Sasi directorial movie Aavanazhi. So he said SN Swamy to make it a CBI Officer. He also asked to change the character name from Ali Imran and he wanted a Swamy name like Sethu Ramayyar, which is very cool.
But, SN Swamy was not ready to forget that name Ali Imran. So he given that name to the police character played by Mohanlal in his next movie named Moonnam Mura. Moonnam Mura was a super success at box office and that character named Ali Imran become very popular as well.
