A Tamil actor tried to get the role which was first offered to Mammootty in Mohanlal movie Iruvar!
Iruvar directed by Mani Ratnam and starred by Mohanlal is considered as a classic in Indian Cinema and many believe that this is the best till now from director Mani Ratnam. Mohanlal’s performance in this movie as Anandan was just unbelievably amazing and after seeing the performance of him in this movie, the famous TIME Magazine described him as India’s answer to Marlon Brando. Along with Mohanlal, Malayalam actor Mammootty was also offered a role in this movie, which was later played by Prakash Raj. But before it went to Prakash Raj, another Tamil actor tried to get that character named Tamil Selvan.
It was popular Tamil Actor Madhavan who tried to get that role. But Mani Ratnam rejected him by saying that his eyes look young and it does not have the maturity level needed by the character named Tamil Selvan. Later that character went to Prakash Raj and it had become a career-turning role for him. Mani Ratnam later introduced Madhavan through his movie named Alaipaayuthe in Tamil. Later Madhavan had acted in Mani Ratnam movies like Kannathil Muthamittal and Ayutha Ezhuthu as well.
Now, Madhavan is one of the most popular actors in India and he is busy in Bollywood too.
