Sunday Holiday Review: Something fresh in the offering which will make you feel good!
One of the major Malayalam releases that graced the screens this Friday was Sunday Holiday written and directed by Jis Joy who had earlier given us the thriller named Bicycle Thieves a few years back. Asif Ali played the male lead in that film and in his Sunday Holiday too Asif Ali is again playing the lead. Artists like Sreenivasan and Aparna Balamurali also playing important characters in this flick which has been bankrolled by MAQTRO Pictures, owned by Sheen Helen. The teasers and songs from this movie had got attention weeks before the releases of this movie and this is the 5th release of Asif Ali this year.
The plot of this flick revolves around the characters named Amal. Anu, Unni Mukundan, and David. Unni Mukundan is a character played by Sreenivasan who is a college lecturer. He wants to become a part of the film industry. One day popular film director David, played by Lal Jose got hospitalized and Unni Mukundan goes there to tell a story to him, which he had written. Amal played by Asif Ali and Anu played by Aparna are the characters in that story told by Unni Mukundan to David. The film tells the story of Unni Mukundan through the story of Amal.
We can say that Jis Joy had done a great job as a writer and director. His first movie is popular for quite a number of twists in the plot. It was a thriller. But this time he had come up with a complete family entertainer which has some realistic plot situations in it. The screenplay has written and the characters have been created in such a way that the audience will feel that they know such people around them. Comic flavor has been used to tell the story and it has good emotional moments as well. Each and every character had their own identity and space in the movie and the director has been successful in presenting the plot without any dull moments in it. Everything was in control and came out very well.
Performance from Asif Ali as Amal was very good and he had done a good job by playing this character in a composed manner. He IS really growing as an actor for sure. Aparna Balamurali was energetic as Anu and she portrayed the character very naturally too. Sreenivasan did a very good job as Unni Mukundan and Lal Jose too did a fine job. Dharmajan Bolgatty stole the show with his comic one liners and Siddique too did a stunning job in this movie. Others like Sudheer Karamana, Meghanathan, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Sruthi Ramachandran, Alencier, KPAC Lalitha, Bhagath Manuel etc also did a very good by playing their character perfectly.
The DOP of this flick was Alex J Pulikkal and he did a fine job by providing the composed atmosphere which was needed to tell the story. Deepak Dev’s background scoring and songs too helped in that purpose. Ratheesh Raj is the editor of the flick and he gave it a nice flow through his cuts.
In total, Sunday Holiday is a very well- made feel good entertainer and it will touch your heart for sure. It is a small movie but has some fresh content in it and will never make you disappointed.
