Producers wanted either Mohanlal or Mammootty in Vellimoonga, says Jibu Jacob!
Vellimoonga was the debut directorial venture of Jibu Jacob and it was a blockbuster success of the year 2014. Biju Menon had played the lead in it and it was written by Joji Thomas. Jibu Jacob recently said in a Media Interview that they find it difficult to get a producer for this movie at first because all producers wanted either Mohanlal or Mammootty to play the lead role in it which is actually played by Biju Menon. Some wanted at least Jayaram to play the lead and some others wanted Kunchacko Boban to play the character played by Asif Ali as well.
When they completed the screenplay, writer Joji Thomas had Mammootty in mind to play this character. But they dropped the plan because Mammootty had done many such roles earlier. Later they decided on Biju Menon to play the lead in it. But producers wanted either Mohanlal or Mammootty in it. They at first approached Kunchacko Boban to play the character played by Asif Ali in the movie. But due to the busy schedules of Kunchacko Boban, he could not adjust his dates for the movie. When they really find it hard to get a producer, there came Sasidharan Ullattil to produce the movie and the rest is history.
