Mammootty in 2016 – An overview!
Mega Star Mammootty had finished this year 2016 as there is no Christmas release for him this year. Earlier his movie named The Great Father was planned to release in this Christmas season, then it had postponed to January 27th. So, he had finished this year with only one genuine box office hit out of the 4 movies released this year. We can look into what really happened for him this year.
1. Puthiya Niyamam
This movie written and directed by AK Sajan was his first release here this year. Mammootty and Nayanthara played the lead in this family thriller. But it failed to create any sort of box office magic and ended up only as an average grosser in the box office. The gross collection of the movie did not even touch the 10 crore mark at the Kerala box office alone.
2. Kasaba
This movie which marked the debut of Nithin Renji Panicker as a director was the second movie of Mammootty this year. He played a cop role in it named Rajan Zachariah. Thanks largely to the trolls it received from Social Media before its release, the film had taken a fabulous opening. Even though it amassed negative word of mouth, due to the hype and fabulous opening, it had managed to gross over 12 crore from Kerala alone and can be called a box office hit.

3. White
There is nothing more to say about this Uday Ananthan directorial Mammootty movie, as it had become one of the biggest ever box office disasters in Mollywood Cinema history. It had made using a budget which exceeds 12 crores and it not grossed even near 2 crores in its final run.

4. Thoppil Joppan
This Johny Antony directorial movie also made no impact at the box office even though it touched the 10 crore mark at box office, thanks largely to the overflow in theaters caused by Mohanlal starrer historical success named Pulimurugan.
