Kerala Box Office 2016 – An Overview!
2016 is coming to an end and Malayalam Cinema had a good year when we consider the success rate we had in this year here. Compared to the previous few years, Mollywood witnessed a lot of box office successes this year and some gigantic successes graced our film industry this year as well. We had 7 blockbusters this year in Mollywood and 8 super hit movies as well. We have seen 5 hit movies as well which had managed to get profit.

The biggest Blockbuster of this year is Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan, which is still running here in more than 80 screens and it had got a worldwide collection near 140 crores. The second biggest success in Mollywood this year was another Mohanlal movie named Oppam which had earned more than 60 crores from its worldwide run. The third biggest blockbuster of this year was Jacobinte Swarga Rajyam starred by Nivin Pauly which earned above 22.5 crores and Dileep’s King Liar had got above 20 crores as well. Kattappanayile Hrithik Roshan starred by Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Action Hero Biju starred by Nivin Pauly and Maheshinte Prathikaram from Fahad Fazil are the other blockbusters this year here.

Prithviraj’s Pavada, Dulquer Salman’s Kali and Kammattipadam, Siju Wilson’s Happy Wedding, Asif Ali’s Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, Sunny Wayne’s Aan Maria Kalippilanu, Ganesh Raj directorial Aanandam, and Jayasurya’s Pretham are the 9 super hit movies of this year.
The movies which touched the hit status this year was Jayaram’s Aadu Puliyattam, Prithviraj’s Oozham, Kunchacko Boban’s Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho, Mammootty’s Kasaba and Jude Antony Joseph directorial Oru Muthassi Gadha.
Even though box office failures, movies like Jalam, Vettah, Guppy, Ozhivu Divasathe Kali, Lens, Karinkunnam Sixes, Kismat, Kappiri Thuruthu, Dafedar etc impressed with its good content as well.
