Box Office 2018: Mohanlal remained the best while Tovino and Fahadh emerged as a safe bet

2018 is gone past us and Mollywood is looking forward to a great year ahead. But when we look back at 2018, there is not much of a change in the proceedings in Mollywood. Mohanlal once again remained at the top with his fabulous box office power even though two of his films bombed at the box office.

His films like Neerali and Drama bombed mainly due to its plot and experiment nature. Drama becomes a profitable venture even before its release with Mohanlal’s great satellite value. So they not at all cared about the promotion after releasing the film. Neerali was an experimental film and as usual, it ate dust at the box office. But he proved his box office potential with his extended cameo in Kayamkulam Kochunni and through the film Odiyan.

Kayamkulam Kochuni collected 68 crores from its worldwide run, largely due to the presence of Mohanlal in it. Odiyan survived the negative talk on the first day and had minted around 60 crores from just 19 days. Thus he becomes a part of the only movies which crossed 50 crore mark last year in Mollywood.

With the successes like Theevandi, Varathan, Njan Prakashan etc, both Tovino Thomas and Fahadh Faasil emerged as a safe bet in Box office. Mammootty had 4 flops and one super hit. Nivin Pauly had one big success and Kunchacko Boban fared average with a number of releases.
