Chunkzz Movie Review: Celebration of Adulthood – Nothing More, Nothing Less!

Chunkzz Movie Review: Celebration of Adulthood – Nothing More, Nothing Less!

One among the major Malayalam releases that graced the screens here in Kerala this Friday was Chunkzz directed by Omar Lulu, who shot to fame last year, through his debut film named Happy Wedding. It was a surprise hit and the success of Happy Wedding had made his second movie a much awaited one. This flick has been scripted by Joseph Vijeesh, Aneesh Hameed, and Sanoop Thykoodam together and this fun film has been bankrolled by Vysakh Rajan under the banner of Vysakha Cinemas. Balu Varghese, Vishak Nair, Honey Rose, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Ganapathy etc played the lead characters in this movie.

The plot of this flick revolves around a group of engineering students. Except one, the remaining ones are studying mechanical engineering and as expected there is no girl in mechanical branch. But then suddenly a girl student named Roya joins in their college and that too in mechanical branch and it changes their life altogether.

We have to say that Chunks has been made a fun ride, only for youth and college students. It has all the elements to satisfy them. The screenplay is filled with a lot of comic one liners and situations were tailor made to create mindless comedy. But have to say that most of them were adult comedies and the presence of double meaning dialogues are too much as well. It will surely keep the family audience away from this movie. The plot is not that complex as it is intended only fun. But Omar Lulu presented it colorfully and presented it in an engaging manner as well. There are twists in the plots and even though they were not heavy ones, they served the purpose. But we have to say that the total treatment of the subject did not raise up to the level of Omar’s first movie named Happy Wedding.

The performances from all the artists were cool and energetic. Balu Varghese was in his elements and so as Dharmajan Bolgatty. Dharmajan is the one who stole the show at many parts in this movie. Vishak Nair, Ganapathy, Marina Michel, Harish Kanaran, Lal, Siddique, Shammy Thilakan, Reena Basheer etc also done their part very well. Honey Rose did her part to perfection as well. She was looking gorgeous and in her glamorous avatar too.

Alby had cranked the camera for this film and his visuals were colorful and created an energetic youthful atmosphere to make the audience to connect with the plot and characters in it. Music was tuned by Gopi Sundar and he did a fine job too by proving rocking background music and fast numbers. Dileep Dennis’s editing was sharp and crisp and it had provided a smooth flow to the proceedings on screen. Technically the movie was brilliant.

In total, Chunkzz is a fun ride which will satisfy youth and college going students. There is nothing much in it as a plot. But it will relax you inside the cinema halls if you are looking for some fun with your friends.
