Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum Review: Once again a Masterclass from Dileesh Pothen!

The major Malayalam release that graced the screens here today was Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum directed by Dileesh Pothen and written by Sajeev Pazhoor. Fahad Fazil and Suraj Venjaramoodu played the lead characters in this movie which has been bankrolled by Sandeep Senan and Aneesh M Thomas under the banner of Urvashi Theaters. The film had generated great anticipation level because of the success of Maheshinte Prathikaram which came from Dileesh Pothen – Fahad Fazil team last year. A new face named Nimisha had played the female lead character in this realistic entertainer.

The plot of this flick revolves around 3 characters. Prasad, Sreeja and a thief who says his name is also Prasad even though he fakes it. Prasad and Sreeja, who marries after a love affair, comes to Kasaragod from Vaikom. While they were traveling in a bus in Kasaragod district, a thief snatched Sreeja’s chain and when he realized that Sreeja saw it he swallows the chain. He has been caught by the passengers in that bus and they produce him at the Police Station nearby. From there the movie really starts moving in an interesting manner. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nimisha played the characters of Prasad and Maya and Fahad Fazil played the character of that thief.

After Maheshinte Prathikaram, a term has been using by the film lovers here in Kerala, which is “Pothettan’s Brillaince”, to appreciate the directorial skill of this man. Once again he is been brilliant as a director and comes out with flying colors. He had made this movie a classic example of realistic entertainer and in that sense, it is a better movie than Maheshinte Prathikaram as well. The story is told through a few characters and the realistic way through which he had presented the plot was just stunning. The detailing and subtlety he brings into the narration was exceptional and the way he used each and every characters to make the movie an entertainer is awesome as well. The screenplay from Sajeev Pazhoor was damn good and dialogues were terrific. There are hilarious dialogues and also ones which have deeper meanings inside. Some dialogues tell more about the characters and their situation.

Performance from Fahad Fazil has absolutely fantastic and his onscreen chemistry with Suraj and Nimisha was terrific as well. Both Suraj and Nimisha had done an excellent job as well and the under acting used by Suraj in this movie speaks volumes about the caliber this actor. But the one who stole the show in this movie was Alencier who had given a sterling performance as the Policeman named Chandran. The real life Policemen who acted in it was terrific as well and as they done a fabulous job in it.

DOP from Rajeev Ravi was another highlight of this flick. His visuals sometimes spoke a lot to the viewer than the dialogues in the movie. The way he created the realistic atmosphere in the movie had helped the director big time to tell the story in a perfect manner. Music scored by Bijipal was great as well. His songs and background scoring really blended well with the atmosphere and situations in the plot. Kiran Das was the editor and even though it is a slow paced movie, he had done a decent job too.

In total, Thondimuthalum Driksaakshiyum is one of the best films that happened in Mollywood in recent times. It is a never to miss movie experience and once again we can say that “Pothettan’s Brilliance” had given a movie which can make Mollywood proud.
