The man who called me The Prince for the first time; Mohanlal remembers Thampi Kannanthanam
Today is a sad day of Mollywood as we have lost two great artists today. Violinist Balabhaskar and Master Director Thampi Kannanthanam. Director Thampi Kannanthanam, who had given some classic super successful movies here in Mollywood, was 65 years old and liver disease caused his death says the reports. He is known for directing the movie named Rajavinte Makan with Mohanlal in the lead. The super success of this movie had given the title of Superstar to Mohanlal 32 years back. Now Mohanlal remembers Thampi Kannanthanam through his Facebook post.
Mohanlal said that it was Thampi sir who called him Rajavinte Makan (The Prince) for the first time and it was he who introduced Mohanlal’s son Pranav in Mollywood. Thampi Kannanthanam had directed 16 movies in his career and out of that 16 movies, Mohanlal was part of his 8 films. Mohanlal played the hero in his 7 movies and except the film named Onnaman, all other films were super successes at the box office.
Rajavinte Makan, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Vazhiyora Kazhchakal, Indrajalam, Nadodi, and Manthrikam are the 6 super successes given to us by this magnificent team. Thambi Kannanthanam had produced 4 among these super hits as well. His first film was released in 1983. It was a movie named Thavalam and in that film too Mohanlal played a small part.
His last film was Freedom, which was released in 2004. He was planning to make a comeback with a Mohanlal movie. Reports say that he was planning to come up with the remake of Rajavinte Makan with Mohanlal in the lead.
