Oru Kuttanadan Blog Review: Promised a lot, but delivered a little
Mega Star Mammootty had come up with his fifth movie of this year today. Oru Kuttanadan blog, directed and written by Sethu, had hit the screens here and it was the maiden directorial venture of Sethu as well. This family entertainer has been produced by Muraleedharan and Shantha Murali under the banner of Anantha Vision. There are 3 heroines in this flick and the female lead characters have been played by Lakshmi Rai, Shamna Kasim, and Anu Sithara. The songs and trailer of this flick had generated great hopes among the audience before the release.
The plot of this flick revolves around the central character named Hari played by Mammootty. The story of the film develops through a blog named Kuttanadan Blog, which has been written by one of the characters in this movie. The blog discusses the issues that happen in a village called Krishnapuram and in the life of Hari, who had returned to his native village from abroad.
Sethu had written many scripts with his partner Sachi earlier and then he began to write movies independently as well. But the success was limited when started writing alone and Oru Kuttanadan Blog was indeed an important movie for him. We have to say that Sethu did not impress much as a director, as Oru Kuttanadan Blog turned out to be an average affair. The screenplay was simple, but it lacked the emotional depth needed for a family entertainer. The comedy elements did not work as well. The only plus points that made this movie a watchable one is the performances by the artists and the visuals.
The performance from Mammootty was cool as Hari. But it was not a role that challenges him and he played it with energy. He looked very handsome in this flick and his screen presence was great too. Three heroines, Lakshmi Rai, Anu Sithara and Shamna Kasim did their part well and they did not have much to do in the flick. Others like Lalu Alex, Nedumudi Venu, Sunny Wayne, Sanju Sivaram, Shaheen Siddique, Sohan Seenulal, Jacob Gregory etc too played their part decently.
The DOP from Pradeep Nair was fabulous and the song sequences were great as well. Music from debutant Sreenath was superb too. Shameer Muhammad had edited the flick and even his cuts did not help the movie to move forward at a good speed.
In total, Oru Kuttanadan Blog was just a one-time watchable flick if you go to cinema hall without the burden of any expectations. It was not a disappointment but it is not a satisfactory one for sure. Watch it if you have time and money to spend.
