Mollywood 2017: Half year report about the box office successes this year!
The year 2017 is now at its halfway mark and Mollywood seems to be doing well than previous years when it comes to the number of box office success we have in the first 6 months of a year. This year we have more hits and it all began with two successes in January this year.
The first hit of this year was Jomonte Suvisheshangal that released on January 19th. It came from Dulquer Salman- Sathyan Anthikkad team which grossed around 18 crores from Kerala and got a total gross over 30 crores. The first blockbuster of the year also released in January. It is the Mohanlal starrer Jibu Jacob movie named Munthrivallikal Thalirkkumbol which released on the 20th January. It had grossed over 33 crores from Kerala alone and got a total gross over 50 crores. It is the only Malayalam movie which grossed over 50 crores till now this year.
In February we have only one hit and that is the blockbuster Prithviraj movie Ezra which grossed over 45 crores from the worldwide run. March is a great month for Mollywood as we got as many as 5 box office successes. Oru Mexican Aparatha, Angamaly Diaries, C/O Sairabhanu, Take Off, and The Great Father are those movies. Haneef Adeni debut directional venture The Great Father also becomes the biggest ever box office success in Mammootty’s career by grossing over 30 crores from its worldwide run.
But April disappointed Mollywood, as we have only one average performer like Sakhav from Nivin Pauly and one hit named Rakshadhikari Baiju Oppu from Biju Menon. In May we have two super hits named CIA from Dulquer Salman and Godha from Tovino Thomas. In June we got one more super hit named Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum from Fahad Fazil and it is going towards a blockbuster status slowly.
In total, we have 13 box office successes this year and as per reports, in the final count, movies like Achayans and Role Models may end up as break even in the box office as well.
