Some years back, getting 2 crore gross on opening day was just a wild dream of Malayalam Cinema. With the small market and low ticket charges, it was a very difficult task for movies here in Mollywood. But, then comes a film from a man who always creates history at box office in Kerala and you guessed right. It was Mohanlal who first introduced Malayalam Cinema to the 2 crore club on the opening day. His movie named Casanova, directed by Roshen Andrews and scripted by Bobby- Sanjay team had made 2.10 crore on its first day from Kerala alone and set a new milestone in Kerala Box office. It was in the year 2012.
For three years, the record remained unbroken and in 2015, Mohanlal himself broken that record with his film named Loham. Loham directed by Renjith had grossed close to 2.19 crore on the first day from here and sets a new benchmark. In the same year December, with increased ticket rates and coming of more screens at multiplexes in Kerala, Dulquar Salman starrer Charlie had made its entry to 2 crore club by grossing around 2.06 crores on its first day from here. 2016 March had seen another history as Dulquar’s movie Kali had grossed 2.33 crore on its first day. Now, after Mohanlal and Dulquar Salman who has two movie each here in 2 crore club, Mammootty too made his entry in to this prestigious club by breaking the record set by Kali. His movie Kasaba which released last day had got around 2.48 crores and surely Mollywood market is getting bigger and bigger.
