L2: Empuraan First Day First Show to Begin at 6 AM IST on March 27

The much-anticipated sequel to Lucifer, L2: Empuraan, is set to hit theatres worldwide on March 27, 2025, with the first-day first-show (FDFS) kicking off at 6:00 AM IST. The film will have simultaneous screenings in various countries, adjusting to respective time zones. Fans across the globe can now mark their calendars for this grand cinematic event.

Sree Gokulam Movies Backs the Project

In a significant development, Gokulam Movies has come on board as the official distributor for L2: Empuraan. The team behind the film expressed gratitude to Shri. Gokulam Gopalan for his unwavering support and confidence in the project. The announcement was accompanied by a striking new poster, adding to the excitement surrounding the release.

Resolution of Distribution Disputes

There had been speculation about a possible delay due to a dispute between Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions over distribution rights. However, with Gokulam Gopalan of Sree Gokulam Movies stepping in and acquiring the rights from Lyca, the film’s release remains on track.

Changes in Production Credits

The entry of Sree Gokulam Movies has led to notable changes in the film’s production credits. While Lyca Productions and Subaskaran remain credited, the latest poster omits Tamil Kumaran’s name, who was previously listed as the Head of Lyca Productions. Instead, Suresh Balaje and George Pius are now credited as line producers, with V.C. Praveen, Baiju Gopalan, and Krishnamoorthy taking over as co-producers and executive producer, respectively.

Adding to the intrigue, Lyca Productions has yet to acknowledge this change on its official channels, leading to further speculation about its role in the film’s final release strategy. Reports suggest that Lyca had originally considered L2: Empuraan a key part of its expansion into the Kerala market, but recent financial struggles with its Tamil projects may have influenced its reduced involvement.

A Pan-Indian Release with a Stellar Cast

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, L2: Empuraan is the highly anticipated second installment in the Lucifer franchise. Produced under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, the film is set for a multi-language release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.

Returning to his iconic role as Stephen Nedumpally / Qureshi Abram, Mohanlal leads a star-studded cast featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and international star Jerome Flynn (of Game of Thrones fame).

Filming Locations and Technical Aspects

L2: Empuraan was filmed across multiple locations, including India (Kerala, Chennai, Mumbai, Gujarat, Ladakh, Hyderabad, and Shimla) and international sites in the US, UK, and UAE. The film boasts top-tier technical expertise, with Deepak Dev composing the music, Sujith Vaassudev handling cinematography, and Akhilesh Mohan leading the editing department.

The movie was shot entirely in anamorphic format, a visual style that will continue into the franchise’s third installment, as confirmed by director Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Massive Promotions and Character Reveals

The promotional campaign for L2: Empuraan gained momentum with the release of the first teaser on January 26, 2025. A unique marketing strategy followed, where character introduction videos were unveiled from February 9 to February 26, with each day featuring two characters. The campaign culminated in the much-awaited reveal of Mohanlal’s character poster and video.

With just a few weeks to go, L2: Empuraan is gearing up to be one of the biggest Malayalam releases ever, with a record-breaking pan-Indian and global rollout. Fans are eagerly awaiting March 27 to witness the next chapter in the Lucifer saga on the big screen.
