The pan-Indian cinematic marvel Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, is set for a grand release in Japan, aligning with the country’s New Year celebration, the Shogatsu Festival, on January 3, 2025. Directed and written by Nag Ashwin, this epic sci-fi film captivated audiences worldwide when it premiered on June 27, establishing itself as one of Indian cinema’s all-time successes.

With a production budget of ₹600 crores, Kalki 2898 AD quickly climbed into the 1000-crore club, becoming the seventh Indian film to achieve this milestone. The film’s release in Japan holds special significance as it will be distributed by Twin, a prominent Japanese company led by cinema figure Kabata Keizo.

The movie showcases an extraordinary ensemble cast, featuring Prabhas alongside Indian cinema legends Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, Brahmanandam, Rajendra Prasad, Shobana, Pasupathy, and Anna Ben. The film also includes cameo appearances by stars like Dulquer Salmaan, adding to its appeal. Praised globally by critics and fans alike, Kalki 2898 AD recently launched a Russian-dubbed version and is set to release a Chinese adaptation, with the Japanese debut following soon after.

Composer Santhosh Narayanan scored the film’s music, while George Stojiljkovic handled cinematography, and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao served as editor. The screenplay was a collaborative effort, with contributions from Nag Ashwin, R. Samarth, Sai Madhav Burra, and B.S. Saravanan Kumar. Produced under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies by C. Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt, the production team has also confirmed plans for a highly anticipated sequel in 2027.
