Kalikkoottukar Review: Something fresh to offer with a storytelling that thrills
One of the movies which were released here in Kerala today was Kalikkoottukar directed by P K Baburaj. The flick has been written by Ramu, who is a popular actor in Mollywood and he is also the father of Devadas who is been playing the male lead in this movie. Devadas had got attention as a child artist some years back when he played lead roles in movies like Athishayan and Ananda Bhairavi. Now, he is coming back as a hero in Mollywood. This film named Kalikko0ttukar was produced by Devamritham Cinema House and it has got a great star cast to boast off as well.
The plot of this movie revolves around six friends who are been together from their childhood. Now, they are doing their engineering and the film focusing on the unexpected incidents that happen in their life. It is their efforts to survive become the crux of the plot. It presents certain social realities while dealing with the problems in which these teens find themselves in.
PK Baburaj had come up with a movie that can satisfy every kind of audience, as he had made it as a complete entertainer. He had done a great job both as a director when he had perfectly blended every commercial element in a brilliant manner. The screenplay written by Ramu was tight, thrilling and engaging until the very last moment. The background he created to present the plot too has been good. As a director, PK Baburaj had created a visual pattern which will keep the audience glued to the edge of their seats and he perfectly blended action, thrill and intensity right from the beginning to make it a thrilling cinematic experience. It has romance, comedy and emotional moments as well to attract the family audience.
The performance from Devadas has been great and we can say that he had really grown as an actor. He was natural, calm and composed as the character named Anand. There is a star material in him if he gets more such characters in the future. Nidhi as Anjaly played her part to perfection and others like Alwin Jenson Jose, Sneha, Bhama, Renji Panikkar, Sundar Pandyan, Salim Kumar, Baiju, Shammy Thilakan, Janardhanan, Kunchan, Ramu, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Indrans, Vivek Gopan, Sunil Sugatha, Bindhu Aneesh, Rajani Murali etc too did their part to perfection.
The DOP of this flick was Pradeep Nair and his visuals were great, to say the least. Through his visuals, he created the perfect atmosphere to tell the story. The music by Vishnu Mohan Sithara too was decent and the background scoring needs special mention. Ayoob Khan is the one who edited the flick and he had given the right pace for this thriller with his cuts.
In total, Kalikkoottukar is a brilliantly made thrilling cinematic experience which will never let you down if you watch the movie without carrying the burden of expectations. It will make you thrill and excited at the same time. It is a great entertainer with a fresh plot, technical brilliance, and fine performances.
