Goodalochana Review: Tried to pour some old wine in new bottle, but still a bitter experience

The major release here in Mollywood toady was Goodalochana directed by Thomas Sebastian who had earlier given us movies like Maya Bazar with Mammootty in the lead and Jamna Pyaari with Kunchacko Boban in the lead. Both movies were box office flop. But this movie Goodalochana still generated some anticipation among the audience as this is the maiden venture of actor Dhyan Sreenivasan as a scriptwriter.

We all know that both his father and elder brother are superb writers. So people expect a lot from Dhyan Sreenivasan as well. In this movie named Goodalochana, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Sreenath Bhasi, Aju Varghese and Harish Kanaran playing the lead characters. It has been bankrolled by Ajaz Ibrahim and the flick was distributed here by Asif Ali’s banner named Adam world of imagination.

The plot of this flick revolves around for friends named Varun, Prakashan, Ajaz, and Jamsheer played by Dhyan, Aju, Sreenath Bhasi and Harish Kanaran. They are jobless and trying to make some money to solve their problems. While trying for that they land in some sort of trouble and the film shows us how they resolve those issues which even affect their friendship at a point.

We have to say that once again Thomas Sebastian had failed impress as a storyteller and Dhyan Sreenivasan’s screenplay too was not that great. The plot setting was nice indeed and there was some scope to make a hilarious entertainer. But they spoiled it with a careless way of storytelling. They failed to convince the audience about the situation in which they are in and the comic part too was mediocre most of the time. There was nothing in it apparat from some laughs which was mostly created by Harish Kanaran and Vishnu Govindan with their dialogue delivery style and ridiculous expressions.

The performance from Dhyan Sreenivasan was decent but he still needs to work on his acting skills. Sreenath Bhasi and Aju Varghese had done their part well as usual. As we said above, the show stealer was Harish Kanaran who played the character named Jamsheer. Vishnu Govindan too did a fine job after his good performance in the movie named Oru Mexican Aparatha this year. Other like Niranjana Anoop. Bhagath Manuel and Alencier too did well. Mamata Mohandas had played a cameo in it and there was nothing in it for her to contribute to this film.

DOP from Akhil George was nice and his visuals captured the ambiance in the plot very well. Songs from Shan Rahman and Gopi Sundar were not up to the mark as well. Background scoring from Gopi Sundar too was not that impressive. Even though it is a comedy movie at times we may feel that it is moving at a sluggish pace.

Goodalochana failed to give anything fresh to the viewers and you will not get anything from it after sitting in the cinema hall for two and half hours. We will not recommend you this movie and if you have so much time and money at your exposal, then you can watch it only for Harish Kanaran’s performance.
