Captain Review: A tribute to an unsung hero and a heart touching cinematic experience
Captain, one of the most anticipated movies of this season, released today. It is the biopic of the Legendary VP Sathyan, who served as the Captain of Indian Football team. Debutant director Prajesh Sen had helmed this project and he had written the screenplay of this movie as well. Jayasurya played the character of VP Sathyan in this flick and Anu Sithara played Anitha Sathyan, his wife. Joby George had bankrolled this movie under the banner of Goodwill Entertainment. The teaser, trailer, and songs from this movie great attention before its release and the presence of Mega Star Mammootty in a guest role also made this movie, a highly anticipated one.
As you all know that this is a biopic which tells us the life story of VP Sathyan, there is no need to explain the plot of the film. It is all about the Football career and personal life of VP Sathyan. It tells us how his career and life panned out which lead towards his tragic death.
Prajesh Sen had done a fabulous job, both as a writer and director. First of all, he had told the plot in a very realistic manner by staying true to VP Sathyan’s life. At the same time, the dramatic moments that had happened in his Football career and personal life has told with utmost control over the proceedings. The emotional situations were presented so well and the director never allowed it to become melodramatic. The dialogues were powerful and heart touching. The way he presented each and every real-life character in the movie also needs appreciation. It was indeed a great debut for him as a writer and director.
The performance from Jayasurya is the biggest plus of this movie. Without any doubt, we can say that Jayasurya had given his career-best performance as VP Sathyan and this actor continues to amaze us with his underplay of emotions. Great recognitions are on his way as well. Anu Sithara had done a great job as well as she really had given a matured performance as Anitha Sathyan. Siddique and Renji Panikker too needs applause for their performance in this flick. Along with them, artists like Saiju Kuruppu, Thalaivasal Vijay, Nirmmal, Deepak, Lakshmi Sharma etc also done their part really well.
The DOP from Roby Varghese sensational in sequences which showed us the Football matches and his visuals really set the tone of this movie. Gopi Sundar once again elevated the movie to another level with his background scoring and the songs were great too. Bijith Bala is the one who edited this flick and his cuts provided the movie with smooth pace which helped a lot.
In total, Captain is a never to miss out kind of Cinematic Experience. It can be called one of the best biopics that has been made in Mollywood and it will really touch your heart for sure. Both technically and aesthetically, Captain is a wonderful movie.
