2018 Mollywood Box Office: Kayamkulam Kochunni and Odiyan got big numbers
2018 was not a great year for Mollywood as the flood that happened here in Kerala pushed many releases forward and due to the lack of proper releasing time and a flurry of releases at the same time made many films eat dust at the box office. Still, we saw some big numbers this year, thanks largely to Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly.
Kayamkulam Kochunni starred by Nivin Pauly and Mohanlal emerged as the biggest hit of this year with a worldwide gross around 68 crores. Mohanlal starrer Odiyan is now all set to surpass it as this film had already minted an amount near 60 crores from its 2 weeks run. Presence of Mohanlal in the top 2 spot of this year once again cemented his place at the top.
The 3rd biggest hit of this year was Mammootty starrer Abrahaminte Santhathikal which had grossed around 37 crores from worldwide. This was the only box office success of Mammootty out of the 5 films he acted this year. Fahadh Faasil had two hits this year. One was Varathan and the second one was Njan Prakashan which is moving to a blockbuster. Pranav Mohanlal starrer Aadhi too had become a blockbuster this year. Movies like Queen, Sudani from Nigeria, Panchavarnna Thatha, Aravindante Athithikal, Theevandi, Koode etc too become profitable ventures this year.
